Sometimes the Hardest Part Is Feeling Like No One Fully Understands Your Experience
You may be carrying worries, sadness, or family responsibilities that are difficult to explain to others. Perhaps you're navigating a loss, struggling with anxiety or depression, or trying to balance your own needs with the expectations of the people around you.
For some people, these challenges are also shaped by cultural expectations, family traditions, or the experience of navigating different cultural worlds. You may feel caught between what you want for yourself and what your family or community expects of you.
I'm Edlira Gora, a licensed clinical social worker and co-founder of Ola Wellness. I work with individuals and families navigating anxiety, depression, grief, relationship challenges, and life transitions. As a bilingual Albanian-speaking therapist, I recognize that our cultural backgrounds and family experiences can influence how we express emotions, understand our responsibilities, and decide when to ask for help.
My goal is to provide a space where you can talk openly about your experiences, feel understood, and explore what moving forward could look like for you.
Based in Wyckoff, NJ, I provide virtual therapy to eligible clients throughout New Jersey.
Your experiences deserve to be understood in context
People don't experience emotional challenges in isolation. Our relationships, family histories, cultural backgrounds, and life circumstances can all influence how we feel and respond to the world around us.
You may recognize yourself in some of these experiences:
You feel anxious, overwhelmed, or emotionally exhausted.
You're experiencing depression, low motivation, or a sense of disconnection.
You're grieving a loss and struggling to adjust to life afterward.
You're navigating family expectations that are difficult to reconcile with your own needs.
You feel caught between cultural traditions and the life you want to create for yourself.
You find it difficult to express your feelings because emotional struggles weren't openly discussed in your family.
You're balancing expectations from different generations, cultures, or communities.
You're going through a major life transition and aren't sure how to move forward.
You feel responsible for keeping the peace in your family, even when it comes at a cost to you.
You're trying to understand yourself and your relationships in a new way.
These experiences are not limited to any one background or culture. My approach recognizes that each person brings a unique story, and that understanding the context of your life is an important part of understanding what you're going through.
What Edlira helps with:
Anxiety and Emotional Overwhelm
Anxiety can make it difficult to feel settled, trust your decisions, or manage the uncertainty that comes with everyday life. You may find yourself worrying about family, relationships, responsibilities, or what the future holds.
Therapy can help you understand your anxiety, recognize patterns that contribute to feeling overwhelmed, and develop ways to manage difficult emotions while navigating the demands of your life.
Grief and Loss
Loss can change the way you see yourself, your relationships, and your future. Grief may involve sadness, anger, guilt, confusion, or feelings that are difficult to put into words.
Family and cultural traditions can also shape how people experience and express grief. You may have expectations about how you're supposed to cope, or feel that your emotions differ from what others expect.
Therapy offers room to process your experience at your own pace. We'll explore what the loss means to you and how you can adjust to changes in your life while continuing to honor what matters.
Depression and Feeling Disconnected
Depression can affect your energy, motivation, relationships, and ability to enjoy the things that once mattered to you. You may feel sad, withdrawn, irritable, or unlike yourself, even when you're continuing to meet your daily responsibilities.
Together, we'll explore what you've been experiencing and consider the emotional, relational, and life circumstances that may be contributing to it. The goal is to help you better understand your needs and work toward changes that support your well-being.
Relationships and Family Challenges
Family and relationship difficulties can become especially complicated when people have different expectations, communication styles, or beliefs about their roles and responsibilities.
You may feel misunderstood, struggle to express your needs, or find yourself repeating patterns that have existed for years. Therapy can help you better understand these dynamics, communicate more clearly, and consider healthier ways to navigate conflict and establish boundaries.
Cultural Experiences and Family Dynamics
Culture can be a meaningful source of identity, connection, and belonging. It can also bring expectations about family roles, relationships, career choices, parenting, and what it means to be successful or responsible. Perhaps you find yourself balancing traditional values with different beliefs, or you struggle to explain your experiences to family members who see things differently.
Therapy can provide space to explore these tensions without being asked to reject your background or disregard your family's importance.
Life Transitions and Finding Your Footing
Changes in relationships, family life, identity, or responsibilities can leave you feeling uncertain about who you are and what comes next.
You may be entering a new stage of life, adjusting to changed circumstances, or rethinking expectations you've carried for years. Therapy can help you work through those changes, understand your reactions, and identify what you need to move forward with greater clarity.
Understanding the person behind the struggle
I believe therapy begins with listening and understanding. Before deciding what might help, I want to understand your experiences, the relationships that matter to you, and the circumstances shaping how you feel.
My approach is warm, collaborative, and individualized. We'll explore what's been difficult, identify patterns that may be affecting your well-being, and work toward changes that make sense for your life.
I also recognize that family and culture can influence how people express emotions, define success, understand responsibility, and approach mental health. For some clients, asking for help may feel unfamiliar or uncomfortable. For others, it may bring up concerns about how their experiences will be understood.
As a bilingual Albanian-speaking therapist, I value the opportunity to work across language and cultural differences. I aim to create a space where you can explore these experiences without feeling that you need to explain or defend the parts of your background that matter to you.
Therapy is not about telling you which values to keep or what choices to make. It is about helping you understand yourself more clearly and find ways to navigate life's challenges while respecting your individual needs and circumstances.
What Edlira’s clients are saying:
My clinical background
I am a licensed clinical social worker and I've worked in the mental health field for over a decade, supporting individuals, families, groups, and parents across different ages, backgrounds, and cultures.
I earned my bachelor's degree in social work from Ramapo College and my master's degree in social work from Rutgers University in 2016.
My clinical experience has shaped my understanding of how emotional well-being is connected to our relationships, family experiences, and the environments in which we live. I bring that perspective into my work at Ola Wellness, with the goal of helping clients feel heard and develop a clearer understanding of the challenges they're facing.
As a bilingual therapist fluent in Albanian and English, I also recognize the importance of language and cultural understanding in building a meaningful therapeutic relationship.
You Can Honor Where You Come From While Making Room for What You Need
Navigating anxiety, depression, grief, or family expectations can be difficult, especially when you feel that your experiences are not fully understood by the people around you.
Therapy offers space to explore those experiences without judgment, understand what matters most to you, and find a way forward that feels more aligned with your needs and values.
